Dawn swim. Glorious weather, Freezing water.

Went for another dawn swim, just before 6:00am. My new glasses came with the most ridiculous steampunk case, looking rather like a canister intended to be sent around an office building via pneumatic tube a hundred years ago. Found that my swimming goggles fit into this perfectly.

Weather beautiful, water freezing and murky. Took three or four attempts before I could submerge without hyperventilating, and when I did I couldn't see beyond my own goosebumps.

Had the sun rising in the east and a full moon rising in the west. A flock of galahs settled on the beach and were snacking on something. On closer examination, it was these little fruits of the dune scrub. When you crack them open, they smell rather like pea pods, and contain a nutritious-looking kernel that tastes absolutely horrible (I thought well, it wasn't killing the birds).

While investigating their food source, I brushed a fly away from my face, which sent the galahs into the air in a chirping panic, flying from the surf club to the south end of the beach and back several times before settling back down.

On the way home, I saw a pair of bush turkeys cross Fourth Avenue from the beach to graze in people's front yards. Good day for non-aquatic wildlife.

beautiful

Don't you love the beach in the morning.

The sea is calmer.
